Thames Park Students Take Digital Imaging to Little Thurrock Primary School

In a vibrant display of our school values, a group of Year 8 students from Thames Park Secondary School recently visited one of our feeder primary schools, Little Thurrock Primary School, as part of an empowering transition project. Upholding the principles of self-help and self-responsibility, these students took charge of their own learning and used it to make a positive impact on the younger generation.

The visit was a model of democracy and solidarity, with the Year 8 students delivering an engaging assembly to Year 5 pupils. Their interactions were marked by mutual respect and a shared purpose of learning, the essence of equality and equity, as they bridged the gap between secondary and primary education.

The highlight of the visit was an innovative lesson on digital imaging, taught by our Thames Park students using Nearpod. They broke down complex concepts into understandable chunks, demonstrating their ability to communicate effectively with a younger audience.

The lesson focused on the differences and features of bitmap and vector images, illustrating the applications of these in real-world digital art and design. Through this, they not only shared their knowledge but also fostered a love for learning in the younger students, embodying our value of caring for others.

As part of their social responsibility, the Thames Park students ensured that the information was accessible and engaging, allowing the Year 5 students to fully engage with the lesson. They exemplified the principle of equity, ensuring that all students, regardless of their prior knowledge or understanding, were included in the learning process.
